Program Description
Are you looking to start a new career but don’t know where to begin? Alverno offers a variety of programs that can offer you a fast path to a new career in the laboratory field. This microbiology specific program is designed to move an individual with a Bachelor’s Degree (see requirements below) into a microbiology medical laboratory scientist position on an accelerated basis. If you qualify, you will be employed by Alverno Laboratories and will complete a 12 week hybrid learning program with pay to prepare you to fulfill a microbiology medical laboratory scientist position at our central laboratory in Hammond, IN. Class size is limited.
- Requirements – Hold a Bachelor’s Degree (BA or BS) in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, microbiology or another physical science.

N.O.W. Microbiology Medical Laboratory Scientist Program Details:
Alverno’s innovative N.O.W. Microbiology Medical Laboratory Scientist program is a 12-week paid hybrid learning program, combining in-person, wet lab instruction with a trained Clinical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Laboratory Technician three days a week for four weeks.

- Two days a week will consist of working in a fully functioning Microbiology laboratory alongside trained personnel, learning how to process different clinical specimens and perform waived testing.
- Participants will also need to study on their own time outside of the program hours with provided material.
- Following the initial four weeks of training, the Medical Laboratory Scientist will train for eight weeks and achieve proficiency at two plate reading benches, utilizing state-of-the-art technologies and their newly acquired knowledge.

Requirements and Other Important Details
- Bachelor’s Degree (BA or BS) in biology, biochemistry, microbiology, chemistry or another physical science.
- Must commit to work for Alverno Laboratories for 2 years
- If 2 years is not completed, the employee will be required to pay a portion of the evaluated value of the program which will be prorated based on length of completed service.
