Elisabeth Shearon, MD

Elisabeth Shearon, MD

Medical Director at Alverno Laboratories

Dr. Shearon is a board-certified Anatomic and Clinical Pathologist and was fellowship-trained in breast pathology at The Lynn Sage Breast Center at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. She is certified in Breast Predictive Factors Testing through the College of American Pathologist’s Advanced Practical Pathology Program and performs breast prognostic marker testing at Alverno Laboratories. She attended the University of Nebraska College of Medicine.

Philip McGuire, MD

Philip McGuire, MD

Medical Director of Cytopathology at Alverno Laboratories

Dr. McGuire a board-certified cytopathologist, fellowship-trained at Case Western Reserve, Cleveland, Ohio. He received his MD at the Indiana University School of Medicine. He then completed his residency at Michael Reese Hospital and is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology.

Huiya Huang, MD, PhD

Medical Director of Molecular at Alverno Laboratories

Huiya Huang, MD, PhD is board-certified in Hematopathology, Molecular Pathology, Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. She completed her pathology residency and hematopathology fellowship at the Medical College of Wisconsin, and a molecular genetic pathology fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. She received her medical degree from Peking University Health Science Center and obtained her Ph.D. in Physiology and Biophysics at Rosalind Franklin University. Dr. Huang serves primarily at Alverno Labs to interpret flow cytometry and molecular diagnostic tests, including Next Generation Sequencing for comprehensive solid tumor and myeloid disease testing.

Jie Song, MD

Dermatopathologist at Alverno Laboratories

As Alverno Laboratories’ dermatopathologist, Dr. Song uses a comprehensive immunohistochemistry panel for skin pathology diagnosis, and molecular testing for malignant melanoma.

Dr. Song is a board-certified dermatopathologist, fellowship-trained at the University of Chicago. He received his medical degree at Beijing Medical University. Prior to his dermatopathology fellowship, he trained in anatomic and clinical pathology, and clinical dermatology. Dr. Song also has Master’s degrees in biochemistry / molecular biology and computer science.

Bing Zhu, MD, PhD

Interprets flow cytometry and FISH studies for complete hematopathology diagnostics

Dr. Zhu is a board-certified hematopathologist, fellowship-trained at University of Illinois at Chicago. She completed her residency at Northwestern University and is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology.  Dr. Zhu also completed a fellowship in genitourinary pathology and obtained her PhD in pharmacogenetics.

Emilie Morphew, MD

Vice President of Medical Affairs for Alverno Laboratories, Medical Director of Franciscan Health Dyer department of pathology and clinical laboratory

Emilie Morphew, MD, is the Vice President of Medical Affairs for Alverno Laboratories for the Franciscan Alliance hospital system. This role is instrumental in identifying best practices in laboratory medicine and facilitating implementation of those practices throughout the hospitals PCI serves.

Emilie Morphew, MD is a board-certified cytopathologist, fellowship trained at the University of Chicago. She received her BA in Biology at Kalamazoo College and attended the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. Between medical school and residency, Dr. Morphew served four years as a General Medical Officer in the United States Navy. She then trained in anatomic and clinical pathology at Duke University.
