N.O.W. Medical Laboratory Scientist

Program Description

Are you looking to start a new career but don’t know where to begin? Alverno offers a variety of programs that can offer you a fast path to a new career in the laboratory field. This program is designed to move an individual with a Bachelor’s Degree (see requirements below) into a medical technologist position on an accelerated basis. If you qualify, you will be employed by Alverno Laboratories and will complete a 90 day training with pay to prepare you to fulfill a medical laboratory scientist position in one of our system laboratories. Alverno’s system consists of nearly 40 locations in Illinois and Indiana.  You will have a choice of any open MLS/MLT position!

  • Requirements – Hold a Bachelor’s Degree (BA or BS) in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, microbiology or another physical science.

N.O.W. Medical Technologist Program Details:

  • Alverno’s innovative N.O.W. Medical Laboratory Scientist program is a 90-day paid hybrid learning program, combining online instruction with hands-on experience, working in a fully functioning laboratory with a trained Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Laboratory Technician.
    • Classwork will be completed remotely from the comfort of your home, guided by an Alverno clinical instructor.
      • Two days of the week will consist of online lectures and training modules. Program candidates will also need to study on their own time outside of the program hours.
      • During the other three days of the week, trainees will work in the laboratory alongside laboratory technicians for the practical portion of the program.
    • After program completion:
      • Participant can choose any open Alverno MLS/MLT position at any of our laboratories
      • Receive a pay raise at end of the 90 day training
      • After six months, the employee will be evaluated for another pay increase

Requirements and Other Important Details

  • Bachelor’s Degree (BA or BS) in biology, biochemistry, microbiology, chemistry or another physical science.
  • Must commit to work for Alverno Laboratories for 2 years 
    • If 2 years is not completed, the employee will be required to pay a portion of the evaluated value of the program which will be prorated based on length of completed service.
