Prostate Health Index (PHI)

July 2021

Effective immediately, Alverno Laboratories will be sending all Prostate Health Index (PHI) testing to ARUP Laboratories. Testing will be performed utilizing the same algorithm in which the Total PSA will be analyzed initially and for results between 4.0 and 10.0 ng/mL; a free PSA, p2psa, a percent-free PSA calculation, and a P score will be provided. Samples that have a Total PSA of less than 4.0 ng/mL or greater than 10.0 ng/mL will not have the percent-free PSA or the P score calculated.

Please note that ARUP requires serum specimens to be separated and frozen prior to submission. Testing availability and specimen requirements are listed below.

Specimen Requirements

Collect: Serum Separator Tube (SST) or Plain Red
Specimen Preparation: Separate serum from cells within 3 hours of collection.
Allow serum specimen to clot completely at room temperature.
Transfer 1.5 mL serum to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube (Min Vol: 1.0 mL).
Storage/Transport: Critical Frozen
Performed: Mondays
Reported: 1-7 days

Drugs of Abuse Confirmation Testing by LCMS

Alverno Laboratories is pleased to announce that we will be updating our LCMS drug confirmation testing. The updates will provide lower levels of detection as well as additional analyte detection. Each drug class, its components, and the reporting limitations are provided in the table below.

Stability: Up to 7 days refrigerated
Method: Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectrometry
Availability: Batched, Monday – Friday. Specimens received after 12 noon will be processed the next day.
